On May 20, the world's largest single-unit tower CSP project — Cosin Solar's 350MW tower solar thermal project in Golmud — achieved a major engineering milestone with the successful assembly and rollout of its first set of heliostats. This milestone marks the project's full transition into the mass production and installation phase of the heliostat field, laying a solid foundation for its scheduled grid connection.

The project is equipped with 89,000 sets of 37m² high-precision intelligent heliostats, which feature high surface accuracy and tracking precision, with a mirror reflectivity of 94% and a batch tracking accuracy of 0.9 mrad. To rigorously control product quality, Cosin Solar has established a full-process quality management system covering everything from component production to mirror assembly. In the manufacturing stage, key components such as reflective mirrors, welded parts, sheet metal parts, and electronic control units are produced using automated production lines with dedicated tooling, ensuring consistent mass product quality from the outset. During the assembly phase, the assembly workshop is equipped with automated production lines, dedicated tooling, and an inline inspection system. This system employs Cosin Solar's proprietary digital close-range photogrammetry technology to achieve high-precision automated surface shape inspection of assembled heliostats, effectively guaranteeing the quality of each heliostat and providing robust support for the efficient operation of the heliostat field.

Currently, on-site construction is progressing well, with work on core components advancing steadily. The pouring of the receiver tower barrel, foundation construction for the molten salt storage tanks, and conventional island foundation work are proceeding in an orderly manner, while auxiliary facilities in the front-of-plant area have also commenced construction. In the next phase, project efforts will focus on large-scale mirror assembly and on-site installation, accelerating construction progress while strictly ensuring safety and quality, to fully meet the scheduled grid connection target by September 30, 2027.

Cosin Solar's 350MW tower solar thermal power project in Golmud is the world's largest single-unit solar thermal power project. It adopts an innovative "three-tower, one-turbine" design and is equipped with a 14-hour molten salt thermal energy storage system, with a heliostat field covering approximately 3.3 million square meters. Once completed, the project is expected to generate approximately 963.9GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to saving 259,700 tonnes of standard coal and reducing CO₂ emissions by 605,300 tonnes.

Cosin Solar is responsible for key tasks including full-project management, plant-wide process design (excluding the conventional island), supply of core system equipment, commissioning, and technical guidance for operation and maintenance. The project also features innovative applications of Cosin Solar's proprietary advanced solar thermal technologies, including multi-field energy cooperative control technology, large-capacity, safe and efficient molten salt receiver technology, distributed molten salt energy storage system solutions, and a highly intelligent smart operation system for solar thermal power plants.
As one of the 2024 demonstration (pilot) solar thermal power projects in Qinghai Province, the project will operate under a regulated tariff mechanism of RMB 0.55 per kWh (including tax) after commissioning. The project will fully leverage the peak regulation, frequency regulation, reserve, and other functions of solar thermal power, significantly enhancing the flexibility and peak-hour power supply capacity of Qinghai Province's power system, promoting the integration of wind and solar power, and playing a significant role in accelerating the province's development into a national clean energy industrial hub.
