From September 23 to 26, 2025, the 31st International Conference on Solar Power and Chemical Energy Systems (SolarPACES 2025) was grandly held in Spain, bringing together over 500 experts, scholars, and corporate representatives from the global concentrated solar power (CSP) sector. During the conference, the SolarPACES 2025 Industry Awards were announced. The SUPCON SOLAR Delingha 50MW Molten Salt Tower CSP Plant(‘Plant’), entirely independently developed, designed, and constructed by Cosin Solar, was honored with the inaugural "SolarPACES 2025 Technology Application Award," becoming the sole recipient of this award.
SolarPACES, under the International Energy Agency (IEA), is the most authoritative international organization in the CSP sector. Its awards are renowned for their rigorous evaluation, high professionalism, and broad global influence. The SolarPACES 2025 Awards comprise three categories: Technology Innovation Award, Technology Implementation Award, and Lifetime Achievement Award. Among these, the Technology Implementation Award aims to recognize projects that demonstrate outstanding performance in commercial operation and industrial promotion. The evaluation criteria cover multiple dimensions, including technical reliability, power generation performance, economic indicators, and industry demonstration effects. The Plant won unanimous recognition from the SolarPACES awards committee for its advanced technology, long-term stable operation, and outstanding performance.
As one of China's first CSP demonstration projects, the Plant fully employs the molten salt tower CSP technology independently developed by Cosin Solar, with over 95% of its equipment sourced domestically. The Plant was connected to the grid on December 31, 2018, and has been operating stably for nearly seven years, with Cosin Solar providing comprehensive operational guidance and utilizing the innovatively developed Cosin Cloud smart management platform for CSP plants. Thanks to its highly efficient system design, reliable equipment quality, and precisely optimized operational strategies, the Plant has repeatedly broken the record for power generation.
In its first full year of commercial operation, the Plant generated 122GWh of electricity, setting the highest level among similar global plants during the same period.
In 2022, it generated 146.4GWh, reaching 100.26% of its annual designed output and becoming the world's first tower molten salt CSP plant to exceed its design power generation.
In 2023, it generated 152.4GWh, achieving 104.38% of its annual target. As of December 31, 2024, the Plant has exceeded its designed annual power generation for three consecutive years, with an average rate of 100.2%.
Furthermore, the Plant's excellent performance has been validated through a comprehensive technical assessment by the independent German engineering consultancy Fichtner, which confirmed that its technology has reached the most advanced level among similar global projects. This project has become a successful benchmark for CSP plants worldwide, from design and construction to operation.
Cosin Solar had previously won the "SolarPACES Technological Innovation Award" as early as 2020 for its independently developed fully automated driverless heliostat cleaning vehicle, becoming the first CSP company in Asia to receive this honor independently. This latest award demonstrates that Cosin Solar's comprehensive technological capabilities in the tower CSP field have gained international recognition. It also highlights the global leadership of Chinese enterprises in the CSP sector and their significant contributions to promoting the sustainable development of the industry.
As the global energy transition accelerates, CSP technology is poised to play a pivotal role in high-proportion renewable energy systems, thanks to its advantages of being green and low-carbon, flexible and adjustable, and grid-friendly. Taking this award as a new starting point, Cosin Solar will continue to promote the innovation, upgrading, and application expansion of CSP technology. The company will actively participate in international energy cooperation, contributing Chinese wisdom and solutions to building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient global energy system.
